SALOU
a resort on the Gold Coast - Costa Daurada, attractively located between Barcelona and Tarragona. The seaside promenade along the sandy beach is filled with walking tourists in the evening. Numerous discos and pubs make the town bustle with life around the clock.
The most famous beaches in the city are:
- Playa de Poniente - runs parallel to the Sant Jaume I promenade and is an ideal place for families with children,
- Playa de Levante, 1,200 m long,
- it is the longest beach in the city, it is adapted to the needs of disabled people,
- Playa de Els Capellans, approx. 200 m long,
- Playa de Cala Llengüadets - is considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches on the Costa Dorada,
- Playa Larga - a 600 m long beach surrounded by a pine forest,
- Playa de Cala Font,
- a beach located in a bay, 125 m long and 10 m wide,
- Playa de Cala Vinya - a small beach that is very popular,
- Playa de Cala Crancs, 80 m long and 45 m wide.
ACTIVE REST IN SALOU
Various water sports: windsurfing, sailing, water skiing, boat rides, diving, banana boats.
On land: tennis courts, basketball, volleyball, football, swimming pools, fitness, playground for children, many kilometers of bicycle paths, also two golf courses nearby.
Picturesque promenades with beautiful palm trees and flowers running along the beach connect Salou with Cambrils.
As an interesting fact, it should be mentioned that in 2018 the Mediterranean Sailing Games were held here.
In 2005, the city was the base for the participants of the Catalan Rally, which was part of the World Rally Championship.
SIGHTS IN AND AROUND THE SALOU
The most famous monument in Salou is the church of Iglesia de Santa Maria del Mar, built in the 18th century as a tribute to the sea and fishermen. In addition to it, it is worth visiting the Torre Vella de Salou, a tower from 1530, which was built to early warn the city's inhabitants against attacks by pirates coming from the Mediterranean Sea. Nowadays, painting exhibitions are often held in the historic tower. In Salou, on the city promenade, there are beautiful illuminated fountains, a statue of King Jaume I and Casa Bonet, a monument representing the style of late modernism. Historically important is the building of la Masia Catalana, which represents what rural life in Catalonia used to be like. The advantage of Salou is the modern botanical garden located here with over 400 species of plants, Jardin Botanico. The park covers an area of 2 ha. There is also a small archaeological park in the heart of the city with the remains of Roman buildings from the 1st century. We are talking about Villa de Barenys, which is a remnant of Roman civilization.
GASTRONOMY
You can spend time in a variety of restaurants - serving Mediterranean, Italian and Mexican specialties as well as traditional Spanish and Catalan dishes. Its specialties include fish, seafood and excellent regional wines.
